With just days away from the latest UK registration plates released carrying the '10' registration mark for the New Year, drivers will be eyeing up brand new cars to purchase from March 1st. However, many drivers are being urged to fully understand their potential new vehicle prior to purchase.
M&S car insurance has expressed concern due to the fact that many UK drivers do not fully understand how their new car works when taking to the road. Around a fifth of all UK motorists have admitted to driving without the knowledge of how windscreen wipers and hazard lights work, as well as adjusting seat positions for ideal comfort.
Driver manuals are an important source of information when first purchasing a new vehicle. However, a third of UK drivers surveyed revealed that they do not read the manual before venturing out on short and long-haul journeys - potentially a very dangerous and hazardous situation for both the driver and third party drivers, passengers and pedestrians.
Head of M&S Insurance, David Wells said: "Whether it's a brand new car or a used vehicle, most garages should talk you through a vehicle before you drive it away. To avoid taking risks and potentially causing an accident, it is important to take time to familiarise yourself with the features of a car that's new to you."
